Competence Center for the Assessment of Railway Diagnostic and Monitoring Technologies
At the border of railway operations and the incorporation of new information- and communication-technologies, especially diagnostics and monitoring technologies, exists a potential for organizational optimization. This is so far not yet been researched.
CCRDMT - “Competence Center for the Assessment of Railway Diagnostics and Monitoring Technologies” – is working in this area. It is located at the university of Koblenz-Landau and headed by Professor Harald F.O. von Korflesch.
Through the strategic partnership between the university of Koblenz-Landau and voestalpine SIGNALING Siershahn GmbH a unique opportunity for fundamental research arises. By this, we can position ourselves in this area of science and practice.
An important result of the activities is GRADE: the „Global Railway Accident Database und Evaluation“, a very advanced tool for research. For the data collection over 43.000 accidents were analyzed, exploiting reports of railway national investigation boards (NIB). About 1.5 million datasets are incorporated. The creation and further developing of the database is the main objective of the CCRDMT; the database offers:
- Over 1.5 million datasets of 43.000 accidents from four continents
- Association of existing accident causes with safety technologies and their economic assessment
- Individual visualization and analysis of accident data and costs and the complementary relevance of diagnostics and monitoring systems
