US automotive plant in Cartersville starts second expansion phase

voestalpine Automotive Body Parts Inc., a Metal Forming Division subsidiary which opened in the US in April 2014, has recently begun its second phase of expansion.

voestalpine Automotive Body Parts Inc., in Cartersville, Georgia, produces ultra high-strength body-in-white parts for premium automotive manufacturers. In future, its scope of activities will range from pressed parts and assembly, to hot forming and laser-welded blanks.

The first extension was completed in the spring of 2014 to coincide with the official plant opening. The second phase has now begun, and is scheduled for completion in November 2015. In addition to the construction of two extra production halls, this phase will include an extra office building and a second warehouse. Currently, around 70 employees work at the site, and once finally completed in 2018, the workforce will number 220.

The beginning of the second construction phase was also marked by the voestalpine Automotive Body Parts Inc. website going live. It is now available at www.voestalpine.com/automotivebodyparts.
