The new Roll Forming app for smartphones is a useful tool for customers and sales staff.
The use of new media is also becoming increasingly important in the steel industry, for communicating with current and future customers. The Roll Forming Corporation (RFC) in Shelbyville, Kentucky, USA, a company in the voestalpine Metal Forming Division, has recently developed its own mobile application for smartphones.
When developing the app, the focus was placed on customer needs. Customers should be able to communicate simply and effectively with the company and stay up to date on current topics. It is not only customers but also the sales team who benefit from the app’s numerous functions:
- Trade show calendar
- Brochures outlining the product portfolio
- Contact data specifically for the market
- Photos, and videos.
The social media used by RFC are also integrated; Twitter feeds and links to YouTube videos are provided. Additionally, the app allows users to submit requests for quotation (RFQ). Using the so-called sketch-pad, geometries can be sketched and added to the requests.
The sales team has successfully used the app at a trade show for the first time. Employees at the show were equipped both with brochures as well as smartphone and app. This allowed drawings of profile geometries to be sent directly to the office, allowing work on putting together an offer to start on the same day. Feedback from the sales engineers after the trade show was very positive.
