voestalpine Grobblech GmbH is supplying extremely high quality linepipe plates for a 114 km gas pipeline. voestalpine will be supplying the thickest sour-gas-resistant pipes it has ever produced for this order.
An order won in mid-2015 to supply linepipe plates to Abu Dhabi marks a further milestone in the history of voestalpine Grobblech GmbH in Linz: this order is for the thickest sour-gas-resistant linepipe plates produced by the company to date. Extremely high quality plates are being supplied for the onshore part of a pipeline expansion project–the Integrated Gas Development Expansion (IGD-E) project in Abu Dhabi. The current IGD project is being extended to meet strongly growing demand for gas in the United Arab Emirates where natural gas consumption is growing by around 15% each year. The extension consists of 3 parts:
- Offshore production on Das island, an artifical island off the coast of Abu Dhabi
- Offshore pipeline, and
- Onshore pipeline leading to the gas refinery in Habshan.
Quality and partnership are the success factors
The linepipe plates for the 114 km long onshore pipeline with a diameter of 42″ are being supplied by voestalpine Grobblech GmbH. The EPC (engineering, procurement & construction) contract for the onshore part of the project was awarded by the national oil and gas company GASCO to a Spanish general contractor. They, in turn, commissioned a voestalpine customer in India to produce the pipes. voestalpine Grobblech GmbH won the order to supply this customer with linepipe plates because of their good working relationship and the customer’s confidence in the product quality.
