Flying high as a team

Hans-Peter Freudenthaler is one of the five “heroes” in the new voestalpine image and brand campaign. He is also the Head of Design Engineering at Böhler Schmiedetechnik GmbH & Co KG. He can depend on his dedicated team here.

Hans-Peter Freudenthaler has been on board with the company for 30 years: In 1979, after completing a degree in mechanical engineering, he began working in forging technology design engineering at BÖHLER in Kapfenberg. “Over time, the forgings have become increasingly complex and the excitement has also grown continuously,” Freudenthaler said.

Well on the way

He has headed Design Engineering since 1997. Close customer contact is important here – he logs about 150,000 air miles each year. And he also doesn’t mind flying in his free time, since he loves traveling and getting to know new cultures. To compensate for all of the flying, he spends time with his family, dog and sports – his mountain bike and running shoes are treasured companions.

More than “just” design engineering

On the job, he can depend on his 17-member design engineering team. “We are a well-rehearsed team that functions well together. We all have our individual tasks,” Freudenthaler explained. The work is complex, as design engineering today involves much more than “just” designing forgings on a PC. It also includes defining the detailed manufacturing plan together with colleagues from Production and Materials. And continuous interaction with the customer requires communication skills as well as consistent data management.
