Florian says of himself that he is not a professional runner. Nevertheless, he is fast, as he proved at this year's Vienna City Marathon, among other events. There, he and his running colleagues took home the victory in the relay. He told us in an interview what sports also brings to his job in Global Supply Chain Management at the High Performance Metals Division.

Florian has been a sports enthusiast since he was a teenager. He grew up in a sporty family, so exercise was always something he did every day. Even back then, he went out for a run now and then. For the competitive tennis he played back then, it provided good basic endurance for long matches on the court. The endurance and ambition also led him to start with a few friends in the Linz Danube Marathon 2023. His relay team “dieFITMACHER” finished in third place. The final runner reached the finish line after 02:38 hours.

1st place at the Vienna City Marathon

Not bad conditions for the Vienna City Marathon, which took place just one week later. “The preparation was not easy, after all the relay marathon in Linz was one week before, but the weather was top and so was the atmosphere”, Florian looks back. The quartet even thought they had a chance of winning. Their goal was to finish first, and they definitely wanted to get on the podium. And so it was to be. Florian took the first 15.5 km as the starting runner. “I was a little nervous before the start and then at the beginning everyone wants to get off the bridge at the same time, there is a bit of a crowd,” recalls Florian, “then come the most beautiful moments. Namely those when the kids along the course want to high-five you.” Finally, the clock showed 02:29:47 and the four runners could be happy about their first relay marathon victory. Congratulations!

Team player through and through

For Florian, the reason why he runs in the relay team and does not enter the fray as a lone fighter is obvious: “I am a team player. Celebrating a victory together is even nicer than doing it alone. On the other hand, you bite through a little more for the others when the going gets tough. After all, you don’t want to let your teammates down.” The team spirit is also important to the ambitious athlete in his professional life. As Global Supply Chain Manager of the High Performance Metals Division, he is responsible, among other things, for the distribution and optimization of materials from production to the sales companies. It is important for him to work well with his colleagues. He also creates reports, analyzes KPIs, defines measures in the team and contributes as a project manager in the project Integrated Supply Chain Planning. Florian ambition and commitment made it into the High Mobility Pool in 2018. The international development program offers young professionals with work experience the unique opportunity to contribute their skills and experience to international projects.

Good cause

Incidentally, the running kilometers Florian covers benefit the voestalpine cares run. Because he, too, is literally moving the world with his sporting activities and running for a good cause by collecting cares, which are used in donations from voestalpine for international aid projects. Speaking of running: Florian favorite thing to do is run from Litztlberg am Attersee to Buchberg. The next running event is also already planned. In September, he and his teammates will take part in the Vienna Business Run on the Danube Island.

voestalpine cares run – Together we move the world!

The international and group-wide voestalpine cares run initiative for employees will run until 30 June 2023 – an initiative in which employees can not only do something for their health, but also do good for people in need. Through sporting activities (running, walking, handbiking and wheelchair use), everyone collects digital “cares” together and worldwide, which are converted into donations from voestalpine and benefit international aid projects. In this way, we move the world together!
