As one of the leading manufacturers of welding consumables, we are very aware of our environmental responsibilities. We meet our own high standards of environmental protection, quality, safety and health at work by using suitable processes in all areas of production, distribution and administration.
“Every generation must safeguard the interests of the next generation.” (Jacques Attali)
We ensure maintenance and continuous improvement of operational environmental protection and compliance with legal provisions through the implementation of our effective environmental management system. The internationally recognized EN ISO 14001:2004 is an essential part to this programm and has been implemented in all major production units. The further roll-out of the environmental management system will be fully completed to all our production sites within the next three years.
Energy efficient production processes
Our focus here lies on reducing energy consumption and increasing the efficiency of water usage in the production units. For example, voestalpine Böhler Welding Germany GmbH is a participant in the HAMM ecoprofit project, the main objective of which is to reduce operating costs and save energy, water/wastewater and solid waste. In total, ten companies and installations of varying size and from different industries participate in the project that provides support to companies in the form of so-called environmental economists.
Health and safety of our employees and customers
Welding fumes and gases may negatively impact the health of the welder so whenever possible exposure should be avoided or minimized by taking suitable protective measures. Welding fume extractors and other ventilation systems must be installed in areas where such fumes originate, or personal protective measures such as aerated helmets must be supplied to the employees. We have already performed detailed research on our welding consumables in order to provide our customers with relevant data sheets.
Since the REACH (registration, evaluation, authorization and restriction of chemicals) regulation came into effect, it is no longer the responsibility of the authorities to identify and assess existing substances but that of the manufacturers and importers. voestalpine Böhler Welding has registered all substances it produces and those imported into the EU and ensures compliance with all obligations in connection with REACH.
