The company manufactures switches, crossings and associated parts for track installation, ranging from individual products to completed assemblies for maintenance and major track renewals. Its customers include all major operators of national rail infrastructure, tramway, and light railway systems in the UK and in the Republic of Ireland. In addition, voestalpine Turnout Technology UK Ltd. provides tailor made engineering, surveying and design for its customers.

Since 1905 the Baileyfield S & C Works based in Edinburgh has been a manufacturer of switches and crossings products for London North East Railways and to all the British Railway Board network. As a key supplier to the railways and with the need to meet demands for new switch and crossings, a new factory was built in 1980 with the latest machinery installed. As a result of the British Rail Privatisation Program, Baileyfield Works was sold to the voestalpine VAE Group (today's voestalpine Railway Systems group) in July 1995.

    The voestalpine Railway Systems is one of the world's leading manufacturers of turnouts, turnout systems and components, and of electronic safety and monitoring equipment for railways.

    VAE Baileyfield now voestalpine Turnout Technology UK Ltd. as the UK division, along with many other subsidiaries in Europe, North America, Australia and South Africa, helps to ensure the successful marketing of the technologies developed at the Group's headquarters in Zeltweg, Austria.
