Check rails made from the standardised UIC33 rolled section are either bolted onto plates with check-rail chairs or clamped without bolts.
The check rails are necessary to guide the wheels in the area of rigid crossings. Sometimes, check rails are also installed as guard rail on the inside of small-curved tracks in order to relieve the outside rail and to minimize wear.
Check rails are used with or without superelevation relative to the top of the rail.
| Special types | Clamping of the check rails with spring elements - check rails are not drilled and therefore no fastening bolts are required If check rails made from special sections are used, availability of these sections must be checked |
