Intense talks on cooperation characterized Volvo Tech Days in Goteborg

phs technology presented for the first time at the 2016 Volvo Tech Day

On 2 and 3 February, voestalpine showed its in-house-developed phs technology as part of the RAI Industry Platform in Goteborg. Key themes such as environmental efficiency, future materials and contributions on automobile weight savings were at the center of the Tech Days.

At the Volvo Tech Day in Goteborg, voestalpine presented high-quality components for exposed-panel applications made of aluminum and steel, roll-formed sections for cars, trucks and construction machinery. The largest emphasis was placed for the first time on the presentation of light-weight phs-ultraform® and phs-directform®. phs technology used in automotive bodies saves weights and leads to higher safety levels, more comfort and increased corrosion protection.

In a joint effort, employees in the voestalpine Steel Division and the Metal Forming Division established intense contact with partners from Volvo, OEMs and TIERs and were able to supply important information on phs technology to important decision makers and future customers. A great deal of interest was generated for phs technology in the course of several customer discussions that resulted in contact follow-ups and cooperation agreements.

"The Volvo Tech Day provided us with an opportunity to show automotive parts and to present solutions for commercial vehicles, agricultural machinery and heavy construction equipment. Our joint appearance with the Steel Division at the trade fair has proven to be effective and has provided added value, especially with respect to the marketing of phs-directform®," reports Cornelia Walter, Vice President Marketing at voestalpine Metal Forming, who is pleased about the success.

With its phs technology, voestalpine offers a combination of everything tomorrow's markets will have to offer in a combination heretofore not achieved in the industry: press-hardened components with the cathodic corrosion protection of strip-galvanized steel sheet, excellent cold forming behavior at high degrees of geometric complexity and a wide variety of material and/or thickness combinations through the use of laser-welded blanks.
