Reaching New Heights

18 March 2015

Approximately 970 people are currently working at the construction site situated near Corpus Christi, TX. There has been much noticeable construction progress. The direct reduction tower, which is the centerpiece of the plant, has already reached a height of 220 ft (67 m). Accordingly, it is already taller than the voestalpine Stahlwelt (100 ft / 30 m) and the Leaning Tower of Pisa. When the tower reaches its final construction height of 450 ft (137 m), it will be the new landmark of the Coastal Bend. It will be taller than Corpus Christi’s TALLEST building, One Shoreline Plaza (411 ft / 125 m) and just as tall as St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna, Austria. True to the motto “Everything’s Big in Texas”.

There also has been significant construction progress in the dock area, where the quay wall has already been completed and the deck is currently being casted.
