Environmental management

Following comprehensive environmental inspection on location of voestalpine Stahl Donawitz a management system for controlling the environmental activities was established and, in the year 1999, certified according to the Standard ISO 14001 and validated according to the EMAS directive.

Successful re-certification of the integrated management system according to the Standards ISO 9001:2000, ISO 14001:2004 and the EMAS II directive by the Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance certification company took place from 14th to 16th November.

voestalpine Stahl Donawitz assumes an active role in the responsibility with regard to environment and society and, with the environmental management system, controls the further development of the environmental activities and the improvement of the environmental situation at the plant location. These activities significantly exceed compliance with legal minimum requirements. The motto is proactive action to deal with future requirements.

In addition to control and monitoring of environment-related activities and manufacturing processes, environmental objectives (improvement projects) are established annually which enable progress in the areas of air purification, waste water, internal recycling of residual production materials, waste management, consumption of energy and materials.

Our employees are firmly involved in these activities and are trained and supported in their activities with regard to environmental responsibility.

Every year, the environmental management system is assessed by the corporate management and verified by internal departments and external certification organisations.
