Costing roughly 165 million Euro, voestalpine Stahl Donawitz GmbH Co & KG was developed into the most modern compact LD steel mill worldwide. The capacity of the steel production line “sintering plant – blast furnace – pig iron desulphurisation plant – LD crucible – secondary metallurgy – continuous casting machine” meanwhile clearly exceeds 1.5 million tons annually and is only utilised for the manufacture of high-quality steels (billets 125 x 125 to 160 x 160 mm and blooms 230 mm round and 390 x 283 mm).
