Our employees are happy in their work! We don’t just claim this, we can prove it: every three years we conduct an anonymous employee satisfaction survey to shine a light on the "world of work at voestalpine". For the fourth time in a row our satisfaction index has risen, thereby confirming our role as the creator of an attractive working environment. Ways of making improvements in the various operations come under scrutiny. And as a result, our employees become actively involved in shaping their own working lives.
This survey forms just one part of our unique feedback culture. There's also an annual employee interview where you can communicate directly with your line manager and work out together what your next step is going to be. This culture of trust creates a climate in which everyone can develop in their own special way.
Free access to the resource "information" is part of our open communication culture. It could be in the form of a personal discussion, through the voestalpine employee magazine, the group-wide intranet or at staff information events. Every company in the voestalpine family is firmly committed to this all-embracing communication culture.
Our employees also enjoy a share of the company's success through voestalpine's unique employee shareholding scheme. 13.5 percent of the company's share capital belongs to the workforce. This employee ownership model applies to all employees in Austria and the legal framework for expanding the scheme is currently being investigated.
We are also fully committed to ensuring our staff stay healthy and safe. Our plant and production methods are not just technically at the cutting edge, ergonomic design is equally important to us. Training sessions and a wide variety of activities ensure that they retain good health well into later life.
We regard safety, quality and environment as all part of the same system. A pro-active environmental management policy is an integrated part of our obligations and responsibility to the public. One third of our investment goes into protecting the environment. In Linz alone, dust emissions have dropped by 95 percent. Our Krems plant is emission-free. Even in South Africa or India, we have environmental standards hitherto unknown in these countries.
