Environment in the Steel Division
The implementation of the most modern environmental technologies as well as the careful utilization of resources are matters of course in the Steel Division. Clear structures and processes ensure compliance with national and international legislations and regulations. By this means emissions are avoided and reduced to a minimum. Today, Linz is one of the cleanest industrial cities in Europe for a reason. voestalpine at the Linz location has made an essential contribution to this. Over the past 25 years and in spite of a production increase of more than 60%, dust emissions have been reduced by more than 95%, SO2 emissions by more than 70% and NOx emissions by more than 25%.
In addition to a variety of cost-intensive measures, the continuous further system development requires corporate transparency. In this context it is absolutely vital that employees are made aware of their environmental responsibilities. After all, dynamic environmental management ensures a safe working environment for employees and a green product for the customer.
At the Linz location a certified environmental management system pursuant to EMAS and ISO 14001 has been in place since 1999. Each year, voestalpine Stahl GmbH, voestalpine Grobblech GmbH, voestalpine Giesserei Linz GmbH, Logistik Service Gmbh and voestalpine Europlatinen GmbH compile a consolidated environmental statement pursuant to the EMAS regulation. The purpose of this environmental statement is not only to inform the public about current environmental issues at voestalpine, but also to further deepen the insight into environmental concerns in the company and spur further improvement.
