voestalpine Steel Division in first place again!

The occupational fair in Salzburg (held from 20 to 23 November 2014) was the backdrop for the national competition (named skills austria) in a wide variety of different occupations. This year again, 150 participants came from all over Austria and represented 15 different occupations. Six apprentices and young technical workers represented the voestalpine Steel Division in the occupations of electrical systems engineering and mechatronics.

The electrical systems engineers were faced with the task of setting up, wiring, programming and creating the visual display system of a pellet processing plant. This was a special challenge because of the technologically sophisticated nature of the systems. Our skilled technicians met the task with flying colors and took both first (Manuel Peheim) and second (Thomas Schwarzinger) place in this section of the competition. As the national winner in Austria, Manuel Peheim will represent the country at the WorldSkills competition in São Paulo in 2015.

The mechatronics specialists on the team also had a tricky assignment. They had to set up and program five project segments under time pressure and finally optimize a production plant system. The teams worked under high pressure up to the very last second. At the awards ceremony, the winners from voestalpine also showed their composure under high pressure and in their high positions on the podium.

Michael Furtlehner and Lukas Mayr won national titles and will also take part in the WorldSkills competition in 2015 in Brazil. The team of runner-up national champions, including Hannes Scheba and Michael Steinbauer, comes from the training center in the voestalpine Steel Division.

These successes are made possible by personal dedication and are accompanied by a team spirit and optimal working conditions in the training center of voestalpine Steel Division.

These accomplishments are especially noteworthy because this year our apprentices and young technical workers had to measure themselves against HTL students as well. Apprenticeship training at voestalpine shows its colors even when compared to centers of higher education. We congratulate the participants, trainers and experts at the Training Center for their admirable accomplishments.
