To meet every customer requirement, we supply hot-rolled steel strip in widths up to 1,750 mm and thicknesses up to 20 mm. Our products are available pickled or unpickled, as slit or wide strip in coils, and even as slit steel strip or cut shapes. These high-quality products are manufactured to tightest tolerances. Hot-rolled steels made by voestalpine are supplied in a wide range of grades and qualities. A variety of alloys and rolling programs provide our customers with just the right steel for their specific applications.

Electrical steel is a material used in many different forms in the construction of magnetic cores in electrical appliances and machinery. As a European market leader, voestalpine has just the right product for every customer that requires non-grain-oriented electrical steel.

As a full-range provider with the highest standards in the electrical industry, we supply innovative electrical steel grades as a solid foundation for energy-efficient applications such as electric motors, generators and transformers. A special focus is also on the electromobility industry, where we supply specially tailored grades in excellent quality. Electric steel strip is supplied by voestalpine directly ex works as slit strip or cut shapes from Steel Service Centers in Austria, Italy, Poland and Romania.

In collaboration with leading European varnish manufacturers, voestalpine supplies insulating varnishes that contain no toxins, carcinogens, mutagens, formaldehyde or chromium compounds. The coatings meet all applicable EC directives (RoHS Directive 2011/65/EC).

Portfolio

The electrogalvanized steel strip portfolio ranges from extremely mild to advanced highest-strength steel grades. All of these grades are characterized by high-quality appearance and excellent shell quality. The mechanical properties are equal to those of cold-rolled sheet. Electrogalvanized steel strip is available with a galvanized coating on one or both sides. The zinc coating layer thicknesses range between 2.5 and 7.5 µm.

Our shipbuilding steels in normal and high-strength grades are used in offshore applications, platform superstructures and for special ships in the oil and gas industry.

Areas of application

Steel shipbuilding plates are used in the cabin structures of cruise ships. The especially thin but wide plates are used for such applications to offer the best processing properties such as flatness and weldability. In contrast, high-strength, thermomechanically rolled shipbuilding plates are used in offshore applications. They are used for platform superstructures or for special ships in the oil and gas industry.

Thermomechanically rolled fine-grained structural steel plates

alform®-steels are thermomechanically rolled steels with excellent weldability, toughness and cold-forming behavior.

We supply thermomechanically rolled heavy plates made of fine-grained steels with minimum yield strengths ranging from 355 to 550 MPa with exceptional toughness and the best welding and forming properties.

As a special high-quality voestalpine grade, alform® steels are found in structural steel work, bridges, pressure pipes and in vehicle and crane manufacturing.

Our thermomechanically rolled fine-grained steels are characterized by a high degree of toughness and excellent weldability. The low degree of cold cracking and high degree of toughness in the welding seam lead to a high degree of safety in welded structures.

Utilization of the higher yield strength in the high-strength fine-grained steels (alform plate 420 M, 460M, 500 M und 550 M), as opposed to the conventional S355, results in thinner cross sections that lead to cost savings through light-weight components and thus to less expensive transportation, assembly and foundations. Savings are also achieved in component manufacturing, particularly in welding.
