At voestalpine, every individual forges their own talents. The development of innate skills, individual strengths and the option to take on leadership responsibilities are among our guiding principles.

The basic prerequisite for innovation is the systematic advancement of every individual. This is what differentiates us from other companies. There is total equality of opportunity. Everyone has earned their advancement and everyone can demand it. Lifelong learning is part of our culture. There's something to suit everyone: from obtaining a fork-lift truck driving licence and learning a foreign language to IT training. Individuals, teams, yes, even whole shifts with their chargehands and supervisors, have accepted our invitation to take innovation on board.

A co-ordinated personal development plan is agreed during the annual employee interview. It is left to each person's own judgement, as to which career path is chosen. A whole range of options are open to everyone: everything from a specialised trade to a career in management. 

There are a variety of programmes, where our management teams are introduced to the challenges of the future right from day one. As good leaders do not fall from the sky, we give our trainee managers the best tools for the job through the MDS (Management Development System) and BUMA (Böhler-Uddeholm Management Academy). International learning projects with participants from all over the world and job rotation in all divisions in the group convey respect for the achievements of our staff.

With this open minded view, specific skills are recognised and encouraged. Our new talent gradually learns about the corporate culture and is given encouragement in technical and personal issues. This helps to create a seamless handover of responsibilities and continuity in management quality, but at the same time allows space for individuality. For there is one thing even the best programme on earth cannot bring out: personality.
