Components for steering systems

Components for steering systems

These tubular parts are produced generally from direct welded or drawn welded tubes.
The finished parts typically have a large number of holes punched and can possibly be produced up to 3 different diameters.
The grades of material used range from St34 - St52 depending on design and test requirements.

Production steps:
Cut to length
Expanding of reducing the cut to length part
Hole punching
Machining for bearing surface

The production sequence is depending on the design of the manufactured column jacket.
Due to long lasting excellent experience in planning and production of outer sleeves the voestalpine Rotec Group offers especially in the construction of prototypes a high qualified service in the development of steering components.

OUTER SLEEVES OR COLUMN OUTER/ COLUMN JACKETS

Column jackets are the outer tubes of the steering column covering the mechanism for the steering column and therewith they are the interface with the vehicle as well. Here are the brackets attached connecting the column to the vehicle. Fixings for switches and steering locks can also be located to the column jacket.

STEERING SHAFT TUBES

These tubes are used to transmit the motion from the steering column through to the steering rack or turning mechanism.
Pre-material for these components are seamless or welded drawn tubes from smaller diameter and with thicker walls. The products will be manufactured in various diameters i.e. expanded or reduced.
In general special shapes are used for these products as triangular or splined profiles.
Especially in cases of using special profiles the voestalpine Rotec Group has the advantage of the extended added value chain. The pre-material as well as the tubular components can be manufactured within the group of companies.

LOCK COLLARS

These tubular components can be offered either as round tubes with slots punched in or special section tubes.
As they have to withstand both wear and shock loads such as if someone tries to steal the car the used material grades are normally very high (ST52 or C35).
Long lasting experience in the processing of high strength and special formed tubes as well as a supplier of pre-material integrated in the voestalpine Group enable and guarantee high quality product solutions round tubular components for steering systems.
