Components for steering systems
These tubular parts are generally produced from direct welded or drawn welded tubes.
The finished parts typically have a large number of punched holes and can possibly be produced up to 3 different diameters.
The grades of material used range from St34 - St52 depending on design and test requirements.
Production steps:
- Cut to length
- Expanding or reducing the cut to length part
- Hole punching
- Machining for bearing surface.
The production sequence depends on the design of the manufactured column jacket.
Due to long lasting excellent experience in planning and production of outer sleeves the voestalpine Rotec Group offers a high qualified service in the development of steering components - especially for the construction of prototypes .
OUTER SLEEVES OR COLUMN OUTER/ COLUMN JACKETS
Column jackets are the outer tubes of steering columns covering the mechanism for the steering column. Therewith the jackets represent the interface to the chassis. The brackets connecting the column to the chassis are attached to the jackets. Also fixings for switches and steering locks can be located to the column jacket.
STEERING SHAFT TUBES
These tubes are used to transmit the motion from the steering column to the steering rack or turning mechanism.
Pre-material for these components is seamless or welded drawn tubes from smaller diameter and with thicker walls. The products will be manufactured in various diameters - i.e. expanded or reduced.
In general special shapes are used for these products as triangular or splined profiles.
Especially in cases of using special profiles the voestalpine Rotec Group has the advantage of an extended added value chain. Pre-material as well as the tubular components can be manufactured within the group of companies - steering shaft tubes from one single source.
LOCK COLLARS
These tubular components can be offered either as round tubes with slots punched in or as special section tubes.
As they have to withstand both wear and shock loads such as caused by a car theft the used material grades are very high (ST52 or C35).
Long lasting experience in the processing of high strength and special formed tubes as well as a supplier of pre-material integrated in the voestalpine Group enable and guarantee high quality product solutions around tubular components for steering systems.
