Refractory Materials, Casting Powders, Additives
In manufacturing technically highly developed metal products, the input materials must be able to withstand the harshest of conditions. voestalpine uses high-tech refractory materials. Refractory materials are extremely strong and heat resistant in order to be able to remain stable during the wear-intensive production of iron and steel. The refractory material purchased by voestalpine Rohstoffbeschaffungs GmbH includes finished products, including bricks and monolithics, as well as other refractory materials used in the production of magnesite bricks. Additives and casting agents are also included.
Refractory material, for example, is also used in the lining of converters that must withstand the high temperatures of crude steel. Sufficient stability of the refractory material in a converter is maintained for roughly 2,500 to 3,000 heats, or a total of about eight to ten weeks.
Casting Powders:
Casting Powders include fluxes and continuous casting powders.
Additives:
Additives include lime, quartz and fluorspar.
