voestalpine Railpro can take care of the transport of products to the work site. The advantages are improvement in quality and a reduction in costs.
Specific agreements are generally preferable to “call out on contract”. Rail transport can be divided into different systems.
Unit Cargo transport
In this system consignments are realized, according to set timetables, from or to fixed stations. There is a hub and spoke network with a set timetable and a standard procedure for ordering and confirming orders.
Charter transport
This system comprises the transport of direct (extra) trains using special timetables. These trains may be necessary in a variety of cases, for example:
- for consignments that are too big for Unit Cargo transport;
- from/to stations that don’t have a fixed timetable;
- when it is necessary to run at times that are not included in the set timetable.
Work trains
In some cases reservation of a work train is recommended. This is a train that is assembled at a specially equipped station (high-density zone), or at another station if this is agreed upon. From this station it runs as an extra train to the work site and is available to supply the required traction and manpower for seven hours (mostly in a train free period).
Wagons
voestalpine Railpro owns 1700 goods wagons. These are hired out on the basis of daily, monthly or yearly contracts. voestalpine Railpro can also provide product-specific wagons and site trains. The most common wagons are: Fccpps, Fas, Sfs, Klmos, Kls. You can find more information on these wagons from the wagon hire department.
