Robot FELIX takes the measurement of switches and crossings to the next level

19 November 2018 |

Robot Felix is testing a S&C for the GVB, public transport company of Amsterdam and vicinity, at emplacement Diemen. “Everyone measures differently. But this computer-steered robot conducts the measurements in exactly the same way each time. And this gives a much more reliable impression of the overall condition of the S&C as a whole. As far as I am concerned, that is an enormous advantage”, says Henny Compier, Technical Analyst at GVB.

End of unpredictable malfunctions

The reliability of the data produced by robot Felix is highly beneficial to the preventive maintenance planning process. Who does not want a future in which unpredictable malfunctions in the railway infrastructure are a thing of the past? Robot Felix does its very best to make this dream come true, namely by monitoring the S&Cs fully automatically during their entire lifetime, which is directly after their delivery by the manufacturer and their installation in track.

Fast and real-time track diagnosis

With Felix, you are free in determining which problem points in the S&C you want to measure. All the data are digital, while their digital transfer to the working place is flawless. In contrast, manual data transfer is sometimes susceptible to errors. However, when Felix does the job, the diagnostics of the measured values are perfect and ready in no time. This reliable way of performing measurements totally improves your preventive maintenance.

Wear pattern visualised through 3D-images

Not to mention the 3D-images. In addition to the production of detailed reports, the degree of wear and tear can be visualised through 3D-images. Each measurement is added as an additional layer to the 3D-drawing. In this way, you can perfectly monitor the behaviour of your product in track.

First certified mobile robot that reaches further

But robot Felix, the first certified mobile robot for automatic inspections, can do even more: Felix is able to reach places that the main line measurement train cannot access, namely metro and tram networks. So after its first encounter with Felix, the GVB indicated that it wants to know more about this trustworthy robot! Is this also what you want after reading this article?
