A clearer overview of your track data with our #RFID Insulated Rail Joints

26 November 2018 |

Did you know that our Insulated Rail Joints (IRJs) contain RFID-tags? Measurement trains can read out these ‘transponders’ and recognise the track components accordingly. With this system, we help the railway operator in mapping out our built-in track products more clearly, so that they can be easily identified.

Insulated rail joints equipped with RFID

Insulated rail joints play an essential role in the railway infrastructure. We provide all our IRJs with RFID-tags. In this way, they can always be localised and recognised.

Good to know

RFID stands for Radio Frequency Identification: a method for identifying a product or object through radio signals. RFID-tags are minuscule chips containing an identification code that can be remotely read out. RFID may be regarded as the more advanced successor of the bar code. Its main advantages are that it can store more information, that it can be integrated into the track components practically invisibly, and that it is not necessary to scan the code to read the information.

Efficient management of the railway infrastructure assets

A digital register offers the railway operator a full overview of the railway system and its maintenance requirements. This amount of information, collected by both the RFID-technology and by other means, considerably increases the efficiency of the asset management in this sector. As a result, the lifecycle costs of the railway components are reduced, while the availability of the rail network is improved.
