Dutch rail infrastructure is one of the busiest in the world. Tight and dense with trains following each other at speed, and critically short intervals. Vast numbers of crossings and tunnels complicate matters further. So an ultra-safe approach to new build, upgrade and network maintenance is essential. It has been built on the four pillars of reliability, availability, maintainability and safety, now known as RAMS. The aim is minimized service disruption.
