Phase Out and Spare Parts

Production of limited volumes of spare parts can disrupt even the most efficient production schedule. So why manufacture low volume parts in a capital-intensive facility? Scaled economy dictates that small volumes must be generated in a production process without undue volume or overheads. The lean and compact procedures employed within voestalpine Polynorm guarantee a competitive cost price coupled to maximum flexibility - while maintaining the high quality standards for which the company is renowned. This is the forte of voestalpine Polynorm.

E-coating
In the Electro-Coating department, (assembled) car-bodyparts such as doors, bonnets and wings are pre-treated and electro-coated in a fully automated dipping line. This line consist of a logistic system with different loading and unloading stations, a series of treatment baths (pretreatment and e-coat) and of course a curing oven.
At the loading stations the products are placed in frames with useful dimensions of l*w*h = 3.6*1.8*2.0 m. After scanning the unique product code, the frames are brought into the logistic system where 2 shuttles transport them to the paint installation. Because of the product code, the installation ‘knows’ what treatment the frame, and thus the product, needs. The frames are then transported by automatic cranes which lead them through the necessary baths.
Basically every frame can get a different pretreatment, a different coating layer or a different curing temperature. Most common is of course the traditional e-coat process which consists of a trication zinkphosphating, e-coat and curing oven. In this proces steel, galvanized steel and aluminium products are provided with a primer-coating layer which conforms to the highest automotive quality standards. Unique in this line is the flexible use of the conveying system. Because cranes are used, we have the possibility of running different programs. For example, we can give products a pretreatment only, which is used for etch passivating aluminium products as pretreatment for bonding. It is also possible to run the products only through the oven, for example for curing adhesives and sealers or for bakehardening aluminium or steel parts. After leaving the oven and cooling zone, the frames are again taken over by the logistic system where shuttles bring them to the unloading stations. Products are unloaded, controlled en packaged.
