Nortrak has been awarded (3) contracts with Valley Metro Rail in Phoenix totaling $21.0 million dollars. These (3) contracts are just the beginning of the new Light Rail system being built in Phoenix. Valley Metro Rail Transit will start out with 23 miles of track. When completed, commuters will be able to ride from downtown Phoenix all the way to the city of Mesa.

Contract LRT-04-030-MP5 calls for (34) 115RE ballasted yard turnouts on concrete ties which will include WBM frogs. Three of Nortrak’s North America plants will be involved in completing this portion of work.

Contract LRT-04-032-MP8 calls for over 5,000 tons of Ri53 girder rail as well as over (40) Contec Switch machines. Various other OTM materials are being procured around the globe to complete this portion of work.

Contract LRT-04-033-MP9 calls for over (30) specially designed embedded manganese steel turnouts using Ri53 rail. All of the casting will be flash butt welded, a first in the USA for this type of welding girder rail to manganese.

Valley Metro Rail has broken up the installation part of this project into (5) Line Sections. All line sections will open simultaneously in 2008!
