Track Rectangle for VAG Nuremberg

voestalpine Klöckner Bahntechnik GmbH was commissioned in February of 2004 as a supplier in the course of a revamp of the track rectangle at the street crossing of Schweiggerstraße / Allersbergerstraße. This contract was awarded in part as a result of the relationship the company has with the turnout partner BWG.

The scope of supply and services included the following:

Planning and engineering services,Standard measurements on site, Re-engineering of two lines to improve railway travel ,Tracking assessments in preparation for installation of deep-groove hearts ,Manufacture of completely read-to-install turnouts and crossings.

This re-engineering amounted to the same amount of work as a new installation of the entire track rectangle. The completed turnout system was ready for acceptance on 28 June 2004. This required the complete assembly floor space of the BWG production facility in Gotha in order to completely assemble the turnout system. Because the track rectangle is located on a very high-frequency street crossing, special attention was paid to assembling as much as possible prior to delivery so that the crossing did not have to be closed for very long. The company had to remove the old track rectangle and install the new one between 11 and 26 August.

In order to guarantee quick installation of the individual turnout components, large assemblies of components were pre-mounted prior to delivery. The individual components were welded together as complex and transportable assemblies and delivered in ready condition together with completely operable transition systems at the beginning of July to VAG. There the continuous elastic material was applied to the turnouts and crossings to ensure insulation against vagrant electric currents.
