Employee development

Targeted development for ALL.

voestalpine regards its employees, their capabilities, qualifications, and commitment to the group as central to its success, and thus as a feature that distinguishes it from its competitors.

We therefore leave nothing in the development of our employees to chance. Tailor-made selection procedures and induction programmes ensure a steady flow of new personnel into the group, bringing individual capabilities and skills with them and using them rapidly to good effect.

For us being well qualified is not just a plus point but an obligation. We encourage and indeed ensure balanced further education in the course of a person’s career by means of our "LIFE! - Formula 33" initiative, and by varying the way in which knowledge is conveyed (on-off-near the job).

Job mobility leads to success

The size, variety of tasks and dynamics of the group open up opportunities for employees to change jobs, extend them and to take on management functions. Job rotation is one of the most important tools in personnel development.

Job rotation encourages individuals to be flexible and to understand the circumstances of the group’s business as a whole. The employee changes to some other shift or department for a specific period of time, or moves to another group company. Nothing takes place casually –job rotations are underpinned by definite agreements on learning objectives and the time allowed for them.

Targeted moving around gives company procedures dynamism. It is not just part of our Management Development System (MDS) but also makes jobs even more attractive through variety and task enrichment.

Leadership - one step ahead

We need very well educated senior managers to be able to take a strong lead in the global market. Those responsible for projects, processes and whole companies therefore have opportunities to make fundamental preparations for their tasks through our MDS (Management Development System). Most of the groups are active internationally with their work spanning more than one division, and these therefore contribute to further cultural integration within the group.
