Hannes Sigmund receives EMAS award as Best Environmental Manager of 2011

The director of Strategic Environmental Management at voestalpine, Hannes Sigmund, was honored at this year’s EMAS Conference as the Best Environmental Manager of 2011.

Under the motto of Environmental Management between Responsibility and Opportunity," the EMAS conference took place between 28 and 29 June 2011 in St. Pölten. In the course of this event, Hannes Sigmund, Environmental Manager of voestalpine, was awarded the 2011 EMAS award by Federal Minister Berlakovich and the second Provincial Parliament President Johann Heuras. The honor has been awarded since 1995 by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Agriculture, Forestry, the Environment and Water Supply to particularly environmentally friendly companies. Since 2008 it has been awarded to the best environmental managers in the country.

The award is in recognition of Sigmund’s many years of dedication to the environment and comprehensive activities in cross-vocational environmental protection. As department director, Mr. Sigmund manages the corporate affairs of strategic environmental management of voestalpine the Environmental Department of the Steel Division of voestalpine.

Over the past few years, voestalpine has been the recipient of several EMAS honors, some of which were awarded for the company’s environmental reports. Most recently, VAEE, voestalpine Schienen GmbH (Donawitz) and voestalpine Stahl GmbH have each been the national award winner.
