voestalpine – Blast Furnace A in Linz Already Reached Full Capacity

5 November 2004 |

voestalpine Stahl GmbH, Linz, a 100 percent subsidiary of the listed voestalpine AG completely revamped and enlarged its blast furnace A, with a total investment of EURO 275 million.

The new blast furnace is now state-of-the-art and is the key element of voestalpine’s major investment program “Linz 2010”, under which - until business year 2007/08 - crude steel production and processing capacity in Linz will be increased to 5.5 million tons per year.

As planned the new blast furnace was put into operation on October 26, 2004 and after a few days of a trouble-free start-up phase has already reached and even exceeded its nominal capacity of 7200 tons per day.

Further details regarding the current state of the project “Linz 2010” and the new blast furnace will be given on the occasion of half-year-results release of voestalpine AG on November 15, 2004.
