On September 1, 2012, Brucknerhaus and Ars Electronica will open the voestalpine Klangwolke.

Under the motto, "The Cloud in the Net", the event will look at the development of digital communications which permeates practically all aspects of our private and professional lives. Projections, singing bolts of lightning, industrial robot choreography, the world's largest swarm of drones: these are just some examples of the production that Ars Electronica has conceived and implemented in cooperation with partners from all over the world.

But voestalpine Klangwolke is a project for everyone, by everyone. Anyone can take part in the "The Cloud in the Net". There is a choice of two activities: making one of thousands of illuminated letters for the Soundcloud ABC or producing one of the 400 Soundcloud Miniatures. Join in and take an active part in the voestalpine Klangwolke on September 1.

Soundcloud ABC

Thousands of imaginative illuminated letters will be crafted in the coming months and fitted with LEDs. Give your fantasy free rein and create letters in all sizes, materials and colors. You can view the first letters for the Soundcloud ABC on the Internet. Everyone can photograph and upload their illuminated letters, so that slowly but surely we will have a colorful letter gallery on the Internet. On the evening of September 1, 2012, each participant's illuminated letter will join thousands of others and sparkle, blink and light up in rhythm with the production. This will make the voestalpine Klangwolke a joint project, a symbol of the interactive World Wide Web – The Cloud in the Net.

Soundcloud Miniatures

Soundcloud Miniatures are short recordings of noises, sounds, music, rhythms, an orchestral piece, musical instruments, or even a squeaking rubber duck. Anyone can create, record or compose one of the miniatures. There are only two rules: The Soundcloud Miniatures cannot be longer than one minute and they must be acoustical. Visitors are welcome to use the Ars Electronica SoundLab, a fully functional recording studio with six workplaces, to record, remix and produce their Soundcloud Miniatures. The final versions will be used during an overall composition, either on September 1, 2012 or on Saturday, September 2, 2012.
