The beginning...

The Traisen foundry was established by Johann Conrad Fischer (1773-1854), a councilman and steel manufacturer from Schaffhausen, Switzerland.

The Fischer family became quite well known for their unique melting shop in Schaffhausen (Switzerland), where they established Europe´s first steel foundry in 1804.

They developed a metallurgical process which led to forgeable steel grades in the use of forging, cold bending, cold pressing, tool production and machine building.

The Fischer family had several Austrian patents, one of which was for the production of Nickel alloyed steel which they obtained in 1825; and yet another for malleable cast iron in 1828.

In 1833 George Fischer, son of Johann Conrad Fischer, purchased together with his wife Seraphine, Anton Winter’s shut-down hammersmith plant in Traisen. This forging plant was the starting point for the Traisen foundry. His younger brother Berthold, after gaining much valuable experience during his six years at the family´s plants, became the sole owner in 1844.
