Arch Renovation

Some years ago a method was developed in collaboration with the ÖBB (Austrian Federal Railways) to renovate existing arches in need of repair by means of steel culverts without altering the body of the underlying structures. This method involves inserting a culvert into the arch on a guiding device, followed by pouring it in with a stabilizing sand mix. In order to make them even more durable and to increase their service life, the culverts are mostly coated with epoxy and fitted with sealing bands at the plate joints in order to guarantee tightness during the pouring process. The great advantage of this method is that the repair work can be carried out without interrupting rail traffic and that its implementation is fast and economical. The box above contains more examples of building projects using this method which have been carried out in recent years.
