History

The first documented mention of Krems occurred in 995 A.D., but settlement in the region goes back to the Bronze Age.

In 1525, ore processing operations began in the copper mill of Wöllersdorf, in the Südbahn region, some 80 km (50 miles) from Krems. This copper mill can be regarded as the origin of our present-day company.

In 1711, Franz Schmid von Schmidsfelden took over the copper mill and moved it to Wasendorf in Styria, where it was converted into an iron mill and sheet iron plant.

In 1854, the Hungarian Sheet Metal Union and the Johann Adolf smelting works in Passhammer consolidated into STYRIA. Shortly thereafter, the plant was absorbed by ROTTENMANNER EISENWERKE AG.

In 1939, after the forge, foundry and steel mill were relocated to Liezen, Krems became the new site for the sheet rolling mill and surface refinement.

In 1955, the plant was placed under the management of Vöest, and fully integrated in 1963.

The plant was then restructured, changing from sheet metal manufacture to sheet metal processing a few years later.

Since 1990, voestalpine Krems Finaltechnik has operated as a legally independent company
