Laser-welded blanks - Ultra-High-Strength Components Made of phs-ultraform®
The main reason for the applications of press-hardened steels (phs-ultraform®) is the requirement of increased crash performance with reduced weight of the body in white. Additional advantages with respect to crash performance, weight and functionality can be achieved through tailor-welded blanks. Generally there are two options.
Same type of joint with different thicknesses (phs-ultraform® / phs-ultraform®).
Different type of joint with different thicknesses/materials (phs-ultraform® / conventional steel grades).
The laser-welding properties are excellent because the coating layer of phs-ultraform® nearly corresponds to a conventional hot-dip galvanized coating.
