On June 6, around 40 international MBA participants and alumni of the WU Executive Academy visited voestalpine in Linz. Next to a tour of the factory, the visitors were able to listen to a presentation and had the opportunity to have an expert discussion.

WU Executive Academy Visit in LinzThe so-called “Company Visits” are an integral part of the curriculum of numerous MBA programs at the WU Executive Academy which is why visits to local as well as international companies are organized on a regular basis. As is the case with voestalpine, internationality and globalization play an important role for the students. Therefore, they often travel to places such as Russia, Asia, South America or the USA as part of the program.

Valuable Insights into the voestalpine Group

After a short welcome, Ernst Balla from Corporate Human Resources at voestalpine AG started his keynote speech about the group’s own leadership development program “value:program”. During his speech he highlighted the uniqueness, the internationality and the importance of the program, implying that the employees, above all, are the key to voestalpine’s success.

In the second half of their visit, the participants were able to discuss various topics with Wolfgang Mitterdorfer, board member of the voestalpine Steel Division, and to hear from his experiences.

After a short overview over the voestalpine Group, Wolfgang Mitterdorfer provided the participants with valuable insights into the innovation power of the Steel Division and into the wide range of products of the division with the highest turnover which is situated in Linz.

"For exactly this reason I am very happy that our MBA students and alumni have the opportunity to get to know voestalpine AG from a different perspective. The exclusive presentation and the subsequent discussion with Mr. Wolfgang Mitterdorfer, as well as the guided tour through the factory in Linz were invaluable experiences which our MBA students and alumni will surely remember for a long time."

Plant Tour & voestalpine Stahlwelt

After the presentations and a lunch break, the participants were able to see first-hand what Mr. Mitterdorfer had been talking about. During an extensive tour of the factory as well as a visit to voestalpine Stahlwelt, they learned all about the process of steel production and the wide range of products offered by coestalpine.
